golem.de hat heute (30.01.2009) im Newsticker die Meldung geschalten, dass Nokia Software zur Behebung des “Curse of Silence”-Problems veröffentlicht hat.
Today golem.de published in it’s Newsticker that Nokia released a software which should bring back 3d Generation Nokia Phones attacked with the Curse-of-Silence-SMS to normal work.
Die Software, gennant SMS Cleaner, wird auf betroffenen Geräten ausgeführt, löscht die gespeicherte Curse-of-Silence-SMS, deinstalliert sich und startet das Telefon neu. Dadurch ist der SMS/MMS-Empfang wieder möglich.Dies bietet jedoch keinen allgemeinen Schutz gegen neue Curse-of-Silence-SMS wie auch der Hinweis auf Nokia Europe zeigt:
Please note that there may be “Curse of Silence” messages queued up in the SMS Center of your Operator Network. In this case you might need to install and run the application again.
Somit muss jedesmal, nachdem eine präparierte SMS empfangen wird die Software neu geladen und ausgeführt werden, was wohl keine zufriedenstellende Lösung des Problems sein kann, aber in die richtige Richtung geht. Es zeigt auch, dass man bei Nokia an dem Problem arbeitet.

Ein Hinweis auf Fortinet, dass eine Software zum Schutz gegen die Curse-of-Silence-SMS anbietet sei hier ebenfalls zu erwähnen. Sie schützt laut golem.de auch andere Geräte vor der “stielle-bringenden”-SMS.
Zum Thema Curse-of-Silence-SMS und A1 gibt es bisher keine weiteren Neuigkeiten. Ich werde diesbezüglich wohl noch einmal nachfragen müssen.
This application can clean a Nokia S60 3rd Edition based device, which may have received a so called “Curse of Silence” SMS message, and thereby restricted from receiving any new SMS messages. The software is called SMS Cleaner.
You only have to download the application, run it on the affected device. It deletes the “Curse of Silence” SMS from the phone, remove itself and restart the device. After running the application the phone should normaly operate and you are able to receive SMS/MMS messages again.
This didn’t protect the device from getting such SMS agein as a note on Nokia Europe shows:

So a rerun of the application is needed everytime you get such a SMS. It’s not the best solution but it’s a step forward.
